The city is located 190 miles south of Dallas and 50 miles north of Houston, a convenient location for both customers and suppliers in the Houston and Dallas metro areas. The city is well positioned to handle inevitable northern population growth due to increased industrial and corporate development south of the city in The Woodlands and North Harris County. The city’s current population is expected to grow by 9.6 percent by the year 2020, and the leaders in the City of Willis had the foresight to prepare for this growth by investing in infrastructure. For the past eight years the city has improved street lighting, upgraded and extended water and sewer lines, and repaired and/or repaved city streets, all of which are a benefit to residents, visitors and businesses.

Nestled in Sam Houston National Forest, and just down the road from Huntsville State Park, Willis offers easy access to many outdoor amenities. Camping, fishing, biking, cycling, horseback riding, and wildlife viewing make Willis and the surrounding area offer premium outdoor activities for residents and visitors alike. Just past the trees on FM 1097 you’ll find the pristine waters of the 21,000 acre Lake Conroe. The lake offers access to some of the finest golf courses, hiking, backpacking, jet skiing, swimming, pleasure boating, and paddle boarding, as well as luxury RV rentals for itinerant travelers.

Getting from point A to Point B is not a problem if you are doing business in Willis. The city is located on Interstate 45, which connects Dallas and Houston. FM 1097 is our main thoroughfare through town and allows access west to Austin and east to Livingston. FM 1097 also takes you directly to the Interstate 69 highway extension that offers access to major Interstate routes in Texas, Mexico, and Louisiana. George Bush Intercontinental Airport is 40 minutes down the road, and the nearby Conroe-North Houston Regional Airport hosts over 300 aircraft, 240 hangars, a control tower, two FBOs, a general aviation terminal building, a U.S. Army Reserve Aviation unit and more than 20 businesses and several government agencies. And businesses focusing on intermodal transportation will find the Port of Houston just 60 miles south.
Future and current Willis employees have many options for furthering their education, whether they are seeking an academic degree or technical and vocational training. Nearby universities include Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas A&M in College Station, and the University of Houston. The massive Lone Star College System has numerous campuses nearby where students can pursue an associates degree, and also take advantage of numerous vocational training programs. The Economic Development Corporation works closely with the Texas Workforce Commission, the regional Small Business Development Center, and various state and federal agencies to provide ongoing continuing education opportunities to local businesses and their employees.

They constantly work to improve the city’s economic development by offering multiple programs specifically for local businesses, including a matching facade renovation grant, innovative workforce development programs, and attractive business incentives on a case-by-case basis.
